Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

The first Good Thing about this morning is that it happened at all. The second Good Thing was, in fact, a Very Delightful Thing: I had a call from Friend Who Knows Too Much (as in 'you'll always be my friend, you know too much') to catch up on my return to this country. I didn't realise that the few minutes that I had gabbled incessantly into the phone had actually taken up 45 minutes of our lives.

When I woke this morning I realised that the incipient cold that I'd thought I might have escaped had indeed caught up with me. I've been expecting it ever since I travelled across the Atlantic sitting next to two people who spent the journey coughing and spluttering. At the time I felt sorry for their discomfort. Now I know that they will be over it and I am just about to endure (men endure, women put up with ) the runny eyes and nose for the next few days. Please let it be gone before I travel to Glasgow on Monday afternoon or another planeload of people will end up with a cold.

Whilst I was away in NZ one of my fridges ceased to work. So this morning I bought another one. Of course they didn't have the one I wanted in stock (it had to be a particular size to fit where the old one is) so I'll have to wait for it. The pharmacy didn't have the new medication that the Doc prescribed yesterday. It will take until next Wednesday to arrive. I won't be here. But it's OK I have plenty to keep me going. The garden centre hadn't got a very interesting supply of Alpines to replace the ones that need replacing in my garden. I couldn't get a washing line!! There were more shops but the three most obvious were all out of stock. How can one run out of washing line in Lewis. Tesco's had no fruit nor vegetables so presumably the supply ferry was late or had broken down. The weather is sunny but every time I got out of the car the heavens opened and dumped a shower on me. At this stage I was beginning to think that it (whatever 'it' is) was personal.

But hey, I don't sweat the small stuff and it was all small stuff. The big stuff is when you aren't around to have the small stuff.

  1. It may just be that you are in for a massive amount of luck, so it's making up for itself ahead of time.

A friend who knows too much? It's a dangerous game you're playing... Keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer, they say! Jokes aside, unexpected phone calls from friends are always a good way to start the day.

  2. Thanks for that idea. I may need some luck in the coming week.

I've decided to plagerise another of your ideas 'cos I think it's brilliant epecially when I don't want to use someone's name directly. Although the person concerned will know and others will guess. It was very hard and I can see that some may be even harder. We shall see.
