Grey Wagtail

A couple of days ago I was at the breakfast bar having a meal when a Grey Wagtail suddenly arrived at the pond for a drink.   The light was poor but I did manage to get a few shots through the window although they were not as good as I would have liked.  However Grey Wagtails visiting my garden are rare so I thought I'd post this as a matter of record:

  1. This must be a little female since it's summer and there are no white eye stripes and black bib?

Had to hurry and look it up; had never heard of one before. Cute little bird!

  2. I think you are probably correct, Lisa, although I hadn't noticed that until you mentioned it. It did fly off with another one. I see quite a lot on the Island but rarely around here.

  3. A smashing little bird.....I think it is a young one.

  4. Never even heard of this one before I think. White wagtails I 'know' though.

  5. I thought the same, Adrian, it looks youngish to me. Not a baby, but not quite an adult yet, either. A teenage bird!
