The Man From Stratford

This evening Anna  and I went to The Theatre Royal in Glasgow to see Simon Callow in Jonathan Bate's play Shakespeare, The Man From Stratford.  The play, which is entirely acted by Simon Callow, is a run through of the seven ages of man with particular reference to William Shakespeare.  Simon Callow is a renowned Shakespearean actor and his ability to change from role to role throughout the evening was transfixing.  His performance was mesmerising.  To say that it was enjoyable would be a gross understatement.

  1. Yep, Pauline, very. And I must have been very tired when I wrote the post. The typos have now been, hopefully, corrected.

  3. Sounds wonderful. Not being bright enough to be able to get into Shakespeare on my own, I love things like this, where people like Simon manage to give us a clear insight into the brilliance of (I think from what I do understand) the greatest writer ever.
I could say much the same of a short biography I read last year by Bill Bryson, or even the film Shakespeare in Love, they both helped me to get into someone who, sorry to say, is usually beyond me (in an upwards direction!).

I was able to browse the page from top to bottom and I think that what strikes me most is your lesson to us:
    Get out there and LIVE!

  5. Are you sure you won't miss all this culture when you come back to NZ Geeb? Brian - I must get Bryson out of the library... You have reminded me. I also need help. Movies like the BBC "Twelfth Night" are my help.

WV is 'aughtm' Which is Welsh for 'fall'.
