The Coastguard Helicopter

Just outside the view from my house is Bayble Island.  It can, however, be seen from Pat and Dave’s house on the other side of the Valley.  When I was there a few days ago the Coastguard helicopter was practising its rescue functions using the Island as it often does.  It’s particularly good for the purpose because the wind (and it was windy that day) means that there is a lot of air turbulence testing the pilot’s skill to the limits.

  1. I remember watching a helicopter over the Monterey Bay years ago, for a long while, working, and read the next day that they had picked someone up out of the ocean, only to lose them out of the lift cuff on his way up. So sad. THey are amazing, aren't they???

  2. Seeing them on TV I never really think about how much skill it must take, but then a few times when I've seen them land at the hospital it becomes more evident.
