Saturday Something

Walking along the main road in Callander recently, one of the group suddenly asked if we could spot what was wrong with this sign. I have to admit that I didn't get it instantly.

Travels and a Mathmatical Limerick

On Monday I left the sun and sand of the Isle of Lewis for the rather less sunny and sandy streets of Bishopbriggs via a night with friends in the Highlands. First thing this morning I drove the 60 miles to Ayr Hospital for what I hope was the last hospital visit until I have the stent in my kidney renewed in three months. I arrived back late this afternoon feeling pretty darn good. The staff in the Bruce Day Surgery at Ayr Hospital are absolutely first rate at making their patients feel good as well as looking after their physical ailments. I shall be catching up with friends over the next few days and hopefully managing some photos and perhaps a blog post or two of some places which don't usually figure in my posts.

Recently, whilst renewing my acquaintance with Zeller's Formula (which I tried learning many years ago with the object of trying to impress people with the trick of telling people what day any date fell on), I was reminded of mathematical limericks.

In particular this one:

12 + 144 + 20 + (3 x √4)  + 5 x 11 = 92 + 0
                   7
Enjoy.

A Saturday Smile

Well if you want a quiet, restful start to the day do not drop a plastic overnight bag containing over a litre of urine onto a tile floor.

At this point I will warn you that there are scenes/language you might find to be of an indelicate nature not usually found on this blog.

I woke at 0630 after a good night’s sleep and decided to get up.

I then decided to go into the bathroom to empty the overnight bag (I often do it in the carpeted ‘en-suite’).

I arrived in the bathroom and dropped the bag.

On with the latex gloves, out with the floor cloths, bleach, floor cleaner and finally Zoflora (thank you Marcel) and I had a clean, sterile and sweet-smelling bathroom again.

Glad Game:

1. As it weighed over a kilo I was just happy that the length of the plastic pipe between my willy and the top of the bag was greater than the distance between my willy and the floor!

2. I dropped it in the one tiled room in the house.

Chester

I love Chester. I always have. It means a great deal to me. Most years my brother, CJ, and I go there. It's only a half hour drive from his home on The Wirral. This year was no exception.

Chester is a very old walled city famous for its Rows - first floor level shops and houses.

The Rows and a staircase up to them.
I like people who smile whatever the weather
I can remember when traffic drove through the centre of the city. Now it's all pedestrianised and much the better for it.
This was at the entrance of the Cathedral. No explanation. Totally bizarre.
This colonnade of shops comprisisng St Werburgh Row
And a licensed TukTuk which was not what I was expecting in Chester

A Gadget Too Far

I came across this gadget the other day.  It's to help you fold your shirts and the like.  I'm a gadget fan but even I really couldn't believe it:

While I'm on the subject of gadgets I was both taken aback and rather complimented this afternoon when someone referred to me a 'someone who is as young as you are'.  Perhaps this doesn't apply to me after all:

And for the Francesses and Adrians of this world I saw this advert the other day.  Ouch.

'Sall for now.

Thankful Thursday

I was reminded today when I read Jaz's post for Thankful Thursday entitled, unusually, Thursday Tantrums that we spend a lot of our lives taking things for granted and not being thankful for the minutiae that makes up the majority of our lives.

Jaz is suffering from double vision.  It prompted her to say, amongst other things of course,
When you are not under threat it is easy to forget that each day is really a gift.  As we go through the motions of the same breakfast routine and off to the same work place.
I remember that time fondly but I'm ashamed at how blase I was about life. The "I'll always be ok" mentality, "it'll never happen to me!"

Well it can and sometimes does. I really hope you can find good stuff in your life amongst all the routine and mundane.
I'll say amen to that Jaz.

Be happy.

I Need a Rest

I'm rather behind with my life in Blogland.  However yesterday I did read Frances Garrood's post about an email she had received.  I'd actually seen this joke some years ago but it didn't stop me and CJ laughing out loud and me deciding to share it with you (apologies if you also follow Frances and have already had your laugh).

Note: This has been circulated so much I doubt there is any copyright.  If there is I apologise.

Journey to Devon

I've had two goes at this post already and both have been lost in the blogger ether.  I'm not doing it again tonight 'cos it's too late.  So I'll post a quick photo I caught on the journey.

I want one!!

More tomorrow, hopefully.

Passed It

When we were at a garden centre yesterday CJ pointed out the following notice.  We just had to stop and get a photo.

So that large yellow thing isn't a vehicle?

A Cheap Thrill

Apparently this wonderful amalgamation of pieces of plastic and metal masquerading as a toy shark cost the princely sum of 99p (about $1.50 US) and has provided hours and hours of family fun for John and Sue and family at Maumulon:

The idea is that you press a tooth and after a random number of teeth have been pressed the jaws spring closed on the unsuspecting finger.  The silly thing is that it even though you know what is going inevitably to happen it is impossible not to jump when the jaws clamp shut.

To Don't

I'm sorry but when I read this on a friend's Facebook wall I just laughed out loud.  It's brilliant - leastways I think so!

A The Sun it Shone

We woke to a beautiful, warm, sunny day so CJ and I went over to the far West side of the Island in the hope of an enjoyable excursion and some good photographs.  At the Community Centre in Uig where we went for lunch (as always excellent homemade soup and as light a chocolate cake (in my case) as I've ever had we came across this notice on the door:

Says it all really!
