I'm Ashamed To Say

That in nearly four decades I have only seen the Lewis Carnival a couple of times and one of those was when my wife was one of the judges of the floats.  This year it took place last Saturday in Stornoway.  CJ and I went into town in the morning early to avoid it.  There was a 'continental market' in the square.  It was largely a gathering of food stalls mostly selling take-away hot food.  I hope they did well with the Carnival goers in the afternoon.  There wasn't really much to photograph but I was fascinated by the cheese stall.  We can get a pretty good selection of unusual cheese in Stornoway in both the Coop Supermarket and The Good Food Boutique and I'd rather support the local economy.  However this cheese stall would take some beating for purveying the unusual:

Perhaps I'll give those a miss.

  1. I love cheese, so I'd enjoy just tasting that. The flowers are cheery and colorful! I hope you both had a good time.

    1. Yes we did thanks Norma. We were just getting some shopping before the crowds arrived.

  2. The cheese stall would certainly have been the one stall where I would have spent some money! Not sure I'd like Whiskey-flavoured cheese, though.

    1. I am a great lover of cheese but I'm not really sure that any of those appealed to me.

  3. Not sure I'd risk seafood that's been hanging around for a while....It looks as if you could order bespoke cheese there. Marmite cheese? Fruitcake cheese? Great.

    1. Adrian, you made me laugh with the Marmite cheese suggestion.....GB is going to get you for that!

    2. Actually, Adrian and Virginia, I think that that's one taste I might be able to cope with because I do eat cheese with bread and Marmite.

  5. Whisky ginger cheese!... I'd certainly have a taste of that! But what's a tartiflette?

    1. Tartiflette is a creamy oven bake of potatoes, cream and bacon – originating from France's Haute-Savoie region but I guess that it's available in most French street markets.

    2. Yum. I've never encountered one, in any form written or otherwise. I might have to make one. Possibly tonight.

  6. Out of curiosity I would try a sample of those exotic concocted cheeses, even though I use vegetarian cheese only.
I would have definitely spent some of my funds at the flower stall.

    1. Even in the years when I was a vegetarian or non-meat eater I have to say that I never went so far as to eat veggie cheese. I love it just too much.

  8. Sticky toffee cheese?! Doubt I'd buy it, but I can't help getting just a little bit curious... I like the last picture with all those colourful flowers.

    1. Yes Monica the flowers were a bit of a surprise. I'm not too sure that even curiosity would have led me to sticky toffee or whisky cheese.
