Goldfish Progress Report

Someone said that as soon as I put goldfish in the pond I'd become really interested in them and keep reporting progress.  Me?  They had to be joking.  Whether they were or not I have to admit that they hit the nail on the head.  I can't admit to being besotted with them or even knowing their names individually.  One is larger than the other four though.  I know that much.  I also know that they are growing.  They are not quite as reclusive as they used to be either.  So here is the current state of affairs pictorially.   They are not the easiest of things to photograph because if I stand over the pond to avoid reflections they very wisely dive for cover.  So these photos were taken through the kitchen window.  Perhaps one day they will be trained to pose for photos.

  1. Yay!! Goldfish! I am not besotted, but I know one in particular - in a static sort-of way!

  3. That's one thing I miss from living in the country- our water feature that youngest son and husband put together. We also had goldfish. We loved sitting on our back screened porch, pleasuring in the sights of birds and fish and the sound of the waterfall. Please continue to share periodically.

    1. Ha, Adrian, I wish I could think of a suitably witty rejoinder.

  5. I think you are quite besotted with all five of them. I also think that you should name all of them too. They provide you many hours of peace just watching them swim around. I somehow thought that by now they would be more accustomed to seeing you, and not hide away when you approach, or is it only when you want to snap a photo that they do this. They should be accustomed to your voice by now. Try trailing your fingers in the water when you feed them and have nice little chats with them.....Bubbles, Big Fish, Splashy, Swishy and Flashy.

    1. I hadn't thought of doing that Virginia. Interestingly it doesn't seem to scare them. It's a shame I'm going away next week I could possibly get them tameish by the time I leave for NZ.

    2. I'm still getting my act together with travel details myself.
I hope you will keep posting on your travels while you are away.
The fish love you, don't worry, they'll be tameish pretty soon.

    1. Thinking about it Lisa. It is the only one I recognise. Not sure of its sex though.

  7. You'll soon have them jumping and eating from your hand ;) And then you'll have to think of a way to smuggle them with you to New Zealand! (Do goldfish survive winter in a pond in Lewis?!)
