Winter Stornoway

Stornoway has a splendid golf course. It's  well over two decades since I walked round it trying to hit a little white ball as few times as possible. What is the saying? "Golf is a way to ruin a good walk." However it can provide good companionship with exercise after a long day behind a desk.

I pass the course a lot because it is part of the Lews Castle grounds in which is situated The Woodlands Café which I frequent.

Earlier this week it was looking particularly attractive in its winter attire:

  1. Nothing nicer for a winter's day than the combination of sunny blue sky and snow on the ground!
I do miss going out for long walks (or even short runs), but I have either been scooped up in the office until long after dark, or it was wet and too unpleasant out there.
The first week of January, O.K. and I are both off work so we are hoping for some walk-friendly weather then.

    1. Meike, I hope that you get a sunny, crisp, blue-skied week for walking.

  2. I love blue skies in winter. The bit of snow on the ground makes the images perfect and I would love to take a hike there. Stay warm!

    1. Mersad, on a day like that the Island can be a wonderful place to walk.

    1. Absolutely Adrian. The Castle Grounds are extensive but not representative of Lewis as a whole.

  4. Beautiful! I am sure that the blue sky is always welcome when you get it at this time of year, right? :-)

    1. Kay, blue skies are always welcome but, as you say, even more so at this time of year.

  5. And you have snow to add to the beauty.

  6. With those trees it just doesn't look like The Isle of Lewis.

    1. You are right, of course, YP but Lewis might surprise you. You and Lady P should come up some time.

  7. I suppose the aim must be, NOT to hit your white ball anywhere near the white snow.

    1. Absolutely, Cro. If it were my ball it would be drawn to the snow like a magnet to iron.
