Thankful Thursday

I've been very remiss recently and have not posted my Thankful Thursdays (and precious few other posts either).  The reason is quite simply that since I arrived back in Scotland I have been up at the crack of dawn (well not actually 'cos sunrise today was 0425 and it would have been daylight long before that) and in bed after midnight and every waking moment has been filled with things I, generally speaking, wanted to do.  I sort of decided, well actually it just happened, that the much-neglected garden was going to get a good make-over this summer.  Since then I have taken every opportunity I  could to work in the garden.  Some days I have still been out there at 9pm.  That's reminiscent of the days when I created the garden from rough croft land over 10 years whilst working six and sometimes seven days a week.

I have enjoyed every minute of it despite the sometimes strong and bitingly cold wind.

One morning's job was to make the Astilbe bed a very damp one because last years it dried out and I nearly lost most of the plants.

So today I am very thankful for my garden and the good health to be able to do the manual labour needed to make it look good again.

    1. I'll be keeping at it Adrian but this is a project for the whole summer and each morning I seem to settle on pulling something apart to re-construct it.

    1. I have a view from my study, kitchen and garden most people could never even dream of Lisa. I am exceptionally fortunate.

  3. I'm very impressed as I'm finding it enough to keep up with a few boxes and pots on the balcony (trying not to think of the garden, or ex-garden, out at the House). If I did have a garden - and the energy to take care of it - I think I'd love to have a pond.

    1. I need the exercise Monica with no croquet to occupy me and I enjoy being outside. The pond gives me considerable pleasure.

  5. It looks great. Don't you feel really good inside after a good gardening day that ends around 9pm? Those are the best.
How are the fish doing? I'm sure they're loving all the beautiful changes that is going on around them.
Oh I just realised Pauline wants to know how the fish are doing as well....great minds think alike I guess (and fools seldom differ my mum always added.)

    1. That's a coincidence Virginia. I've just had a text from a friend telling me that 'great minds etc'. I shall blog about the fish today.

  6. Hardly any more satisfying work than that, is there! Not that I've ever tried it much myself... I leave that to my Dad, who is always busy with something or other on the allotment.

    1. When I'm in the right mood I love gardening Meike. What I don't like is having to do it (weeding and mowing and so on) when I'm not in the mood.

  7. my garden consists of several pots and tubs of flowers, so not hard on me. I do love what you've completed already!
