Sandwiches

Was it Yorkshire Pudding who, not too long ago, wrote condemning the ubiquitous Swiss Army Knife? Whoever it was let me assure them that you were wrong so to do. I have carried a SAK for over six decades since when I was a teenager.

I think that I may have mentioned before how puzzled I've been by sandwich packaging. Today I had chosen a chicken salad sandwich at the Beatson Charity Café in the Beatson Cancer Centre. I'm recently good at puzzles (as well as being reasonably modest) but this sandwich packaging really floored me.

In the end I used my trusty SAK's largest blade (an ordinary domestic knife having proved useless). The effort was worth it. The sandwich was delicious.

Arcane Post - 2

I recently posted on the subject of A Cynical View of Jars.  I said at the end that it was an arcane post.  I think I thought that the word meant not only little known and esoteric but also rather of very limited interest (ie boring).  I’ve since looked it up and it doesn’t.   Anyway a number of other things often spring to mind of equal arcaneness and I thought I’d occasionally burden/enlighten you with them.  I shall adopt the format used by Katherine for her Eye Candy although I cannot guarantee that my posts will have the same aesthetic appeal.

The first is a wonderful article of packaging that I received the other day.  Pills usually come in blister packs or round containers.  Round objects take up quite a lot of space and packaging is rather more awkward than the very practical solution just adopted by Healthspan for their vitamins.  It certainly takes up far less room in my medicine box.

Too Much Wrapping

I was reasonably certain that CJ or Ian had done a posting on plastic wrapping (other than Ian's recent A Month Without Plastic ) but I can't find one. Anyway yesterday when I was at Intermarché I saw what, to me, is more ludicrous than any other piece of shrink wrapping that I've ever come across: shrink wrapped oranges. Even worse is that it's here in France where fruit and vegetables seem generally to be fresher and more 'straight from the farm' than we are used to in the UK.
