Blogger - Spam - Again!

Well I have caught Blogger well and truly this time.

I have become fastidious in checking my 'Comments' folders ever since comments I was certain had been posted and had not been there previously have suddenly appeared later. I have just completed today's check. It contained amongst other comments:

which is dated 23 August.  So I went to the 23 August post and found:

Which shows, pretty conclusively I think, that Blogger is now removing random comments from old/previous posts and placing them in 'Spam' and, presumably, heaven knows where else.

I've now removed the comment from Spam and, guess what, it's back where it belongs.

22 comments:

  1. Blogger is removing literally 100s of old legitimate comments and placing them in spam. I went through my spam a few weeks ago and got it down to zero. It is now back up to 220 and almost all the comments are random ones from friends going back several years. The spammer delights in removing one word comments in particular. I have given up going through and putting them back. I check daily and release the daily ones and leave it at that.

  2. I have experienced everything you describe, and more. I check my spam folder every day.

  3. This has been going on since early this year, and maybe before that. Mine began with a few at once from 2019. I keep them in the spam folder as markers. They are from posted comments taken and put into the spam folder as if not posted already. I believe they were posted, and removed by Blogger into the spam folder. I accidently posted one without writing down were it went to.

  4. You have to wonder what algorithm is at work or is it a naughty boggart?

  5. It has been doing that for a while, the best so far this week was to take a reply that I wrote to a published comment, remove it from the blog post, and pop it into Spam Waiting Approval . . . Both the original comment and my reply were a month old. Sigh.

I try not to get too irritated when their software gets screwed up - it is free and by all accounts, less tetchy than Wordprses.

  6. So far my new blog hasn't suffered that fate but give it time ...

  7. There is so much "shifty" behviour going on everywhere All that wasted energy should be directed elsewhere and put to good use.

  8. The same has been happening off and on for me. At least nonsense comments written in Arabic had been correctly caught of late.

  9. I've noticed a lot of stuff in my spam and some of it was from long ago.

  10. yes I've had the same issue for quite some time, checking for comments that blogger has put into spam seems to be a regular thing.

  11. I check my spam folder daily and often find comments that I know were published. How does this work???

  12. It has recently been spamming my own replies to comments from as far back as 2012. I wonder if some smart alec adds a new word to the spam algorithm and it isn't limited to new comments.

  13. Of late I have been getting fake traffic on my blog. It doesn’t seem to do any harm, but it inflates the hits. I have learned to ignore it, not having a clue how to stop it.

  14. Thank you, everyone. I have obviously been getting off relatively lightly compared with some of you. Quite a few of the comments above went to Spam. Over the years Blogger has usually managed to sort out it's problems but perhaps it's getting to the stage where it's no longer worth their while. I suppose that, worldwide, there must be people using blogger for commercial purposes who make Blogger some income but I often wonder just how much longer it will remain. I did flirt with Wordpress years ago but there were so many problems I abandoned it PDQ.

  15. I think some of my comments have disappeared on some blogs. I'll be sure that I had left a comment somewhere but then can't find it. Of course, maybe I forgot to hit "publish" but I'm always wondering...

    1. Now you come to mention it Ellen, the same has happened to me and I've been left wondering if I dreamed the comment and never actually wrote it.

  16. Strange. I can't recall having noticed any old comments disappearing for me - only occasional new ones not getting published until I've marked them as not spam.

  17. The first 8 years of my blog were reverted to draft. Blogger is deleting comments on THOSE posts! Craziness.

    1. Mind you, Debbie, reverting 8 years of your blog to draft was rather unusual.

  18. I reverted it to draft intentionally. It sparked some outrage among my children, so I reverted it to draft and write very little about them.

Comment moderation is activated 14 days after the post to minimise unwanted comments and, hopefully, make sure that I see and reply to wanted comments.
