Apart from seeing a friend on Saturday morning and attending to the washing machine for 4 loads of washing on Sunday I spent from Thursday lunchtime until well into Sunday evening in the garden. The weather was fabulous. By Monday morning my body knew it had had a good workout so it was just as well I was out for the whole day for coffee and then lunch over on The West Side with another friend of 47 years. My body appreciated the day relaxing in the sun.
Today my Goddaughter, partner and young son arrive off the lunchtime ferry for a short stay. I'm hoping the sun will come out by the time they arrive.
So this morning I've done all Sunday's ironing and I've got a short while to catch up with life, the universe and everything. However, I've just decided to write a few words instead.
Those were the words. Here's a few close-ups from the garden.
|
Oxalis adenophylla, Silver Shamrock |
|
Libertia |
|
Centuria montana, Perennial cornflower |
|
Astrantia |
|
Saxifraga umbrosa, Wood Saxifrage (I've always known it as London Pride) Flower is 1 cm across |
|
Rhodiola rosea, Roseroot. |
I love your oxalis, and the fact you have managed to capture insects in some of the photos too
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tigger.
DeleteGraham, your wonderful garden photos have brightened my day. Thank you for this lovely post.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome, Jill. I'm glad that you like them.
DeleteYou must be quite close to your Goddaughter to have her to stay. I remember my Godfather sending me a birthday card and some money every year but never seeing him except when my mother visited him and took me along occasionally. He always seemed like an old man all his life. I don't do any ironing and I have the washing machine going about once a week, one small load, sometimes less than once a week.
ReplyDeleteRachel, I'm very close to my Goddaughter. She last stayed the year before lockdown. We've just had a lovely afternoon out after lunch in town. I was very close to my Godparents too - until they died.
DeleteBeautiful flowers. I will be looking at the greenhouses for Astrania.
ReplyDeleteMaywyn, Astrantia is a temperate climate plant.
DeleteI bet the lunchtime ferry is in by eleven. She'll fly across with her new engines.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the letter posting.
Have fun.
Adrian, at least she was bang on time! I've been enjoying life.
DeleteGlad to see some of the results of all your hard work! :) Wish you a good time with your guests!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Monica.
DeleteIf you have had similar weather to ours then I am not surprised that you have been out in the garden every day. Gorgeous blooms by the way.
ReplyDeleteThank you, JayCee. The weather has been spiffing (remember that word?).
DeleteEnjoy the time with your visitors.Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you, BBBJ.
DeleteGreat photos and you have wonderful stuff in your garden.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Red.
DeleteYou certainly haven't forgotten how to take brilliant photos. Next time you have the camera out in the garden, can you do me a favour and point it down over the bay, please. Enjoy your time with your goddaughter and her family.
ReplyDeletePauline, your wish will be my command. It's pretty full on and very enjoyable being with them.
DeleteWhat you call "Libertia", we call "Spiderwort" - we have it in dark purple, light purple, and white! Great photos, and it's good to hear that you are enjoying the garden, good weather, and family/friends! Right now it's nearly 1AM and I'm enjoying the neighbor's yappy dog, yapping endlessly through the night. No sleep for me!
ReplyDeleteMarcheline, I hope that you managed some sleep. I'm glad that I have hew neighbours and that the ones I now have are all considerate.
DeleteThat sure was a long workout in the garden. The flowers are so pretty and different from ours.
ReplyDeleteDiane, I find that the garden could occupy me every waking moment on a sunny day if I let it.
DeleteYou've been really busy! How nice that with all the work you have not forgotten to actually enjoy life. Have a lovely time with your goddaughter & family!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Meike. I am fortunate in that I do enjoy working in the garden and the walking and heavy work helps to keep me fit.
DeleteThere really are worse ways to spend a pandemic 😉. I have had a similar few days to you, being outside all the time - aren't we fortunate to have our gardens and be fit enough to work in them? Am amazed at how far advanced some of your plants are - down here the astrantia have not even formed flower bugs.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a lovely visit with your Goddaughter and her family, x
Thank you, Jayne. We are indeed very fortunate as you say. The troops have just gone into town (we had our breakfast in The Woodlands anyway) for a reccé and I've been doing a few odds and ends before they come back and we'll walk down to the beach. Mum and child want to swim in the bay because other were doing it yesterday. Mind you some of them had wetsuits on!
DeleteHow lovely to have your god-daughter visit - I bet she enjoyed seeing all your lovely flowers as well as catching up with you :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Margaret. They are very good because they live around 500 miles and a ferry crossing away.
DeleteIt's lovely being able to spend so much time outdoors in this good weather, and why not, the flowers look beautiful. I'm still waiting on some colour here :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy spending time with your visitors. X
Jules, considering until a week ago we were suffering Baltic northwesterly winds everything has suddenly shot up.
DeleteYou pack a lot into your time!
ReplyDeleteI love all the flowers but the London pride is so tiny and so delicate, there's something special about that
Kylie, I find that the older I get the busier I become because there are far fewer years ahead of me than there are behind me and I don't want to waste a moment of them. The tiny London Pride flower is special but they so small one rarely stops to look at the individual flowers.
DeleteLoved the image of the saxifraga umbrosa. When enlarged like that it looks almost unworldly - like abstract art.
ReplyDeleteThank you, YP.
DeleteThanks for the look at your garden, Graham, it does show the results of your careful tending. I especially liked the Silver Shamrock and Libertia complete with "visitors." It's nice that you will be taking time to spend with your goddaughter and her family.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Beatrice, we had a wonderful time.
DeleteGreat close-ups Graham.
