I'm in Bishopbriggs. Waiting for me when I arrived was a jiffy bag from Marcel containing a film (movie) entitled What We Did on Our Holiday. This evening Anna and I watched it. I haven't laughed at a film so much for many a long year. The cast and writers are all well known and the film is brilliant. Despite that it seems to have sunk without trace in that it is available on Amazon at a rock bottom price and for even less in Sainsbury's. I think that the last time I reviewed a film was in 2008 when I had just part-watched a film that I really didn't take to. Since that post when I mentioned that I didn't watch many films, my life in New Zealand has meant that, in fact, I have now watched quite a few. So if you want a real escapism laugh out loud couple of hours I recommend that you watch this one.

I'll keep an eye out for it.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'd enjoy the humour Adrian.
DeleteI loved that it was so different -and unexpected.... I thought of you and the life up that way when I watched it!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you liked it too Fiona. I've been trying to place the beach. It's supposed to be Red Beach in Wester Ross I think but it doesn't look like it.
DeleteAnything that makes me laugh gets my vote. I never watch films with killings, explosions, wars, car crashes, etc, so my choice is limited. I'll have a look, thanks.
ReplyDeleteWe're on the same wavelength then Cro because I much prefer feel-good films: life's too full of unpleasantness to add fiction to that.
DeleteThank you for the recommendation! I've had a look at the list of cast and there are several I have seen (and liked) in other films or series.
ReplyDeleteMeike the cast is good and the film very unexpected. I have a feeling that you will find it worth watching.
DeleteI have never heard of this movie....will seek it out and have a look.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that you'll enjoy it Virginia.
DeleteI think I watched that on the way home from New Zealand in fact! Is that the one where the old man dies? I had already been out of England for nearly a month and I felt that curious sense of dislocation which you get when abroad and see something tremendously English.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed Jenny the one where the old man dies.
DeleteI'm only catching up on your latest posts now...sorry Graham. The past couple or so weeks have been pretty crazy.
ReplyDeleteI love David Tennant and will watch anything he is in. I'm also a fan of Billy Connolly. I read reviews of this movie when it was released. I must keep an eye out for it...I need a good laugh, I think. But it will have to wait until the Australian Open is over. :)
I think you'd enjoy it Lee. I've just finished watching the last episode on the Great Barrier Reef with David Attenborough. Stunning. I've been away and haven't managed to see any of the Open yet. I'm not even sure which of the UK stations is showing it. I hope it's not Sky: I don't get Sky.
DeleteOne of my favourite movies, have watched it 4 times now!! Still laugh out loud. Love it :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you enjoyed it too Julia. I just can't understand why it received such low scores and unfavourable comments on the various movie sites.
