Yesterday, 21st June, Was the Summer Solstice and the longest day of the year. It did not go dark at all here tonight in the north of the Hebrides. The Butt of Lewis is almost on the same latitude as the most northerly coast of the Scottish mainland.
My garden is in full bloom. Most of my plants are perennials but there are some annuals as well. This is only part of garden part of the plot on which the bungalow is built.
As for the weather the irony is that I am wearing exactly the same clothes at the moment that I wear in the winter: including my Hoggs of Fife winter lined Bushwhacker trousers. As Victor Meldrew would have said "I don't believe it!"

ReplyDeleteThe garden looks wonderful! On Saturday we had 24C here in Christchurch - great for the shortest day weekend… back to normal frosts again now.

ReplyDeleteYour garden looks absolutely fabulous, Graham! That you need your winter clothes tells me that at least the extreme heat wave from southern Europe hasn't hit the Isle of Lewis, then! (Here, we're having more normal summer weather just at the moment, but warnings that it may be heating up...) Keep posting a photo now and then - one does not get tired of a view like that! :)

ReplyDeleteI had a holiday many years ago in early July in Durness in Sutherland, and you're right, in summer at those latitudes it just doesn't get dark at night.

As for Victor Meldrew - I think I want to re-watch the entire set of DVDs Steve and I watched together shortly after he moved in with me all those years ago.
