World Chocolate Day celebrates the anniversary of chocolate's introduction to Europe in 1550. The day was established in 2009. On this day, candy stores and local suppliers offer their best chocolate treats for people of all ages to enjoy. Leastways that's what Google told me.
Today is World Chocolate Day.
Until today I had never heard of World Chocolate Day.
Having just read up on the subject I have discovered that other Chocolate Day celebrations exist, such as National Chocolate Day in the United States on 28 October. The U.S. National Confectioners Association lists 13 September as International Chocolate Day, coinciding with the birth date of Milton S. Hershey (September 13, 1857). Ghana, the second largest producer of cocoa, celebrates Chocolate Day on February 14. In Latvia, World Chocolate Day is celebrated on July 11.
I love chocolate. How can anyone not?
However I will not be celebrating World Chocolate Day any more that I celebrate World Football Day (December 10th); International Joke Day (July 1st); International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism (February 12): International Day of Happiness (March 20).
I could go on and if anyone is eager to see what day it is on any particular day then HERE is a good place to start.
So far as I am concerned there are 365 or 366 Chocolate Days and as for the rest.....I didn't know about them before and I'm not really sure that I need to know about them now.
thecontemplativecat here. Every day is chocolate day.
ReplyDeleteContemplativecat, indeed it is for me too.
DeleteI am more than happy to celebrate every Chocolate Day mentioned, plus all the days inbetween. Thank you for the link to all the celebration days, but I am disappointed to see that there is only one Day of Non Violence. I would have liked to have seen another 364 of those.
ReplyDeleteJayCee, wouldn't we all like to see less violence? Unfortunately the world seems to get more violent by the day.
DeleteWhat will they think of next 🤨 ?
ReplyDeleteJayne, the ability to dream up things is endless.
DeleteChocolate Cake Day is 27 January. I like to celebrate it instead of a plain Chocolate Day. :)
ReplyDeleteMaywyn, I would include chocolate cake in with chocolate but I'm not really a cake eater.
DeleteWho comes up with all these "days" anyway? I don't take any notice of any of them and life goes on smoothly enough without my participation :)
ReplyDeleteMargaret, I have absolutely no idea and, like you, my life plods on regardless.
DeleteI'm not a big fan of chocolate as it gives me headaches! My favorite treats are lemon desserts like lemon meringue pie or lemon cake. I'll have to watch out for National Lemon Day, Graham!
ReplyDeleteEllen, I'm with you on lemon meringue pie - absolutely scrumptious.
DeleteThere are rather too many World Days for ...... for them to have any impact now.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, I think you have hit the nail on the head.
DeleteWell I'm a day late and I've missed world chocolate day but I might celebrate it anyway.
ReplyDeleteI often wonder how many "world day of......." overlap. World day of firearms would have to be July 4, patisserie day on July 14. Someone smarter than me could have a field day with this idea
Kylie, I'm sure you could celebrate chocolate any day at all. I do. I'm not quite sure why US Independence Day should also be world day of firearms apart from the fact that the country worships them
DeleteThe special days are common and some of them not that important. However, I do like chocolate.
ReplyDeleteRed, it would be impossible to argue with you.
DeleteI knew we had a really good quality bar of chocolate in the fridge. Yesterday a desire came over me, only to find that the pack was empty. Lady M had obviously previously had a similar desire, and had failed to throw away the empty pack.
ReplyDeleteCro, I feel for you! To be so near and discover it's no longer there.
DeleteSome days have more than one 'celebration' - I was astonished to find a calendar listing them all.
ReplyDeleteYes, Jablog, there's a plethora of 'World Days'.
DeleteI love chocolate and eat far too much of it. Some days I have absolutely no problem NOT eating any, but other days I can not stop myself, and feel very virtuous when I manage to stop before finishing the whole bar and put the rest back in its drawer.
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely something weird going on with your blog, Graham. Not only did your post about instant gratification disappear, as you have noticed, but this Chocolate Day post appears twice on my reading list in spite of there only being one of them.
Meike, my blog experiences are bizarre. I'm fortunate in having a fail safe brain when it comes to over-indulgence.
DeleteI am quite sure there is a world day for everything you can imagine. I think I will propose a day to commemorate banning all the other world days!
ReplyDeleteChocolate is one of those things that I like better the less I eat of it. Meaning, if I eat it all the time I lose my appreciation for it. But, having gone long stretches without it, when I have some it's like a brand-new discovery. My favorite is chocolate-covered cherries! And chocolate-covered pretzels. A nice cup of hot chocolate in the winter is always good, too. Someone at work recently brought in kebab-style skewered grapes that had been dipped in chocolate. That was yummy (eaten cold from the fridge).
ReplyDeleteMarcheline, little and reasonably often is my mantra but I do prefer chocolate that isn't coverig something else because I love the smooth texture.
DeleteI never knew about World Chocolate Day until now. I had to give up milk chocolate about 30 years ago because of lactose intolerance, and more recently I've almost given up dark chocolate too, as it often contains at least "traces of" nuts and peanuts, which I have come to realise I'd better keep away from as well. (Nothing drastic happens from just an occasional very small amount, but I don't buy it to keep at home any more.) I can still use cocoa powder in baking, though...
ReplyDeleteMonica, I really don't envy you the intolerances. I'm not aware of having any although bright sunlight used to make my eyes run. Dark glasses cured that.
DeleteOnly a very mean spirit would suggest only one day as World Chocolate Day, chocolate is too good to be limited to just one day. As for all the rest - pppf.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Pauline. I'm with you 100%
DeleteI am with Pauline!
DeleteFunny having a world chocolate day. I use to love it so much but now kind of tired of it so only have it once in a while, I dont' feel so guilty afterwards like I use to.
ReplyDeleteAmy, I can't imagine not eating chocolate and I've never felt guilty!!
DeleteWow that link was interesting. It is International Day of Combating Sand and Dust Storms today but I would prefer it to be chocolate day. I have a little every night in front of TV.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Diane. It's interesting the habits we have with our chocolate treats.
DeleteOf course, there is a holiday for everything, Graham, but as you said one is never needed to enjoy things we enjoy, like chocolate...also ice cream for us!
ReplyDeleteBeatrice, every day is a chocolate day. I have one or two pieces of Terry's chocolate orange with my coffee.
DeleteEvery day could be World Chocolate Dat as far as I'm concerned!
ReplyDeleteBob, you're a man after my own heart.
DeleteChocolate in the UK should have its own holiday, it's that good! We brought Bounty bars back home one time. So good!! Everything is good there-Snickers, Mars bars and that oh so marvelous Cadbury's.
ReplyDeleteAt risk of Americans being mad with me, your chocolate is better. It just is! I do know what I'm talking about, I have had years to compare!
Kay, whether it's better or not it is certainly different...and I love it.
