Seven Dwarfs

I expect that almost all my readers will know that the Seven Dwarfs in the Disney version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs were named Happy, Doc, Grumpy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, and Dopey.

However in 1916, Snow White was produced for the first time in film by Paramount Pictures, adapted from the 1912 Broadway version. This was during the silent film era and at this time the  Seven Dwarfs were named for the first time Blick, Flick, Glick, Snick, Plick, Whick and Quee.

Tolkein also was very keen on dwarfs and it was he who coined the plural of dwarf as Dwarves.  We know the names of the lines of Dwarves of the 7 founded, these are: Longbeards, Broadbeams, Firebeards, Ironfists, Stiffbeards, Blacklocks and Stonefoots. However we only know the name of the father of the first line (Longbeards) which was Durin.

All that was simply to introduce you to a composite of seven of the pictures I took of Joshua. Adrian, that wizard of photo manipulation, produced the following:

  1. I like the composite very much. From seven photos count six figures, is that right? Regardless, it is a great photo, I would enlarge it and frame it!

    1. Thank you, Kay. It is all the same person but, if you mean is one of the figures duplicated the answer is in the affirmative.

  2. Way cool! If I had to guess, I'd say figures # 1 and 7 are the same. (I know they are all the same person, I just mean the silhouette as such.)
Like Kay suggests, I would frame it. Maybe a nice Christmas gift for the family?

    1. Thanks, Meike. I'm sure that Adrian will be pleased. I may well do as you suggested.

  3. Told you Graham, no fooling your readers. It was my fault Kay I had to join two sky bits to make a wider image and forgot to save the original prior to cloning out the dwarf. Good job I only charge a hundred pounds an hour.

    1. How correct you were Adrian. I would not have noticed at unless I'd studied it very carefully - and I took the photos!

  4. Enchanting! At one stage many years ago I had a fancy for photoshopping images ... it was all very new in those days. I don't seem to have the time these days!

    1. Jenny, I used to do some photo manipulation and alteration but now it's just mainly removing annoying telephone lines etc and adjusting colour etc. I really would like to get back to more serious manipulation but there always seem to be so many other things to do.

  7. How clever! Just goes to show though, how photos can be manipulated for good or bad.
Dwarf namess remind me that seasonaly the names of Santa's reindeer forget to include Rudolph. (We always include Roger - The Spare,)

    2. Potty, photos these days in magazines are rarely a true representation - photo enhancement and manipulation is commonplace.

  8. Reading blogs is so educational. I never knew about Blick, Flick, Glick, Snick, Plick, Whick and Quee until now.

And I didn't notice the repeat silhouette either. I must be slipping.

    1. The odd thing, RWP, is that I actually had known that but had completely forgotten.
