The Plan Changed

It's Monday evening. I'm supposed to be recovering in hospital after having a new knee today. Unfortunately the infection which caused me to spend a night in the Emergency Ward at Hastings Hospital in New Zealand had not gone away when I had a test last week so I've been back on antibiotics and had a further test today. The operation has been postponed for one week and hopefully the infection will have gone and at this time next week I'll be in post-op.

David and Molly have come to look after me when I get out of hospital but, instead of preparing for that, today, which has been a sunny but cold day, has been a day of garden maintenance after a trip to the doc, breakfast and a crossword at The Woodlands and a trip out to see how things were getting on at the house at Grimshader. This evening it's the first two episodes of Who Pays The Ferryman....again.

David and Molly relax

    1. Pauline we are both fortunate in living in a beautiful, if very different, place. I'm hoping that I'll know tomorrow whether my op will go ahead next Monday. If the infection is still there it will really be a bummer.

  4. Good job they noticed....All the very best for next week and don't wear the dog out with your bionic knee.

  6. I hope next week's appointment will be kept, as it will mean your infection has well and truly gone.
This was one change of plan that felt, I think, more positive than negative, with such a beautiful day to enjoy in your garden.

  7. Sorry to hear about the delay GB. Hope the infection clears up soon, xx

  8. I am sorry to hear about the delay. I hardly want to wish you into surgery, of course, but it will be good when it's over and you are able to continue with your mountaineering career and Strictly Come Dancing sessions. :)

    1. Jenny it will be good when it's over but your comment made me think of the old joke. "When I've had the operation will I be able to dance?" "Yes." "That's good to hear because I couldn't before I had arthritis."

  9. There's a lot of hidden stress in the build up to any major operation and this one has been in your thoughts for ages. Fingers crossed, the antibiotics will do their job and next week you will have your new knee. Nice to see the marvellous view from Chez Graham again.

    1. Thank you YP. Oddly we met friends in the Coop this morning who thought that I must be devastated by the delay. No. I don't worry about things I can do nothing about. It's pointless.

  10. Is the operation going to happen on the island, rather than the mainland Graham? I'm impressed.

    1. Yes Carol we have a wonderful orthopaedics team on the Island and very short waiting times too.

  12. What a beautiful spot! I hope you're rid of the infection very soon; and then you'll be rid of the operation; rid of the old knee and sporting a new one! The waiting is the worst part, I imagine. It always is.

Take good care...my best thoughts and wishes are with you, Graham. :)

    1. Oddly Lee I don't sweat the small stuff and a delayed op is small stuff in this case (it's not life threatening) and the delay has provided a wonderful opportunity to get things done in the garden (even if my knee is hating it).

  13. Hope your infection soon goes and that the knee replacement goes well too. My daughter just had a hip joing replacement two weeks ago, and says it's wonderful to be pain free. We'll be thinking of you and sending good vibes. Take care and God bless. And keep your eye on the prize, as they say! xoxox DeeDee

  14. We've been having wonderful spring weather here the last few days. I don't have your splendid sea-and-garden view of course, but have still managed to keep myself quite busy just getting my balcony ready for the season. I hope your infection will go away and that the knee op won't have to be delayed too long.

    1. Monica I wish I could say that this is spring weather. At 6℃ with a bitterly cold wind it feels much more like a sunny winter day.

  16. Better safe than sorry GB....a week longer can make the difference of a safe operation with 100% healing in no time.
So glad that David and Molly will be around to look after you while you recover.
Sending you best wishes for a successful operation.
