Thankful Thursday: A Wedding

Today I went to another wedding: that of, Joanna, the elder daughter of Friend Who Knows Too Much.  It was held in Lochcarron deep in the heart of the Scottish Highlands where Joanna has found her little bit of heaven on this earth.  I felt very privileged indeed that Peter and Joanna invited me.  Joanna and her sister Caroline have been two special people in my life.  So today I am very thankful to have seen Jodi (for that is what Joanna is usually called) so happy.

FWKTM with her Mum and Dad (young and daft as always)
and reverting to the elder statesman that he is.
Caroline and her partner Micheal
Yes.   This really was the bride's choice of transport from the church to the reception.
The groom is a shepherd and gamekeeper and dogs are important (even, in this case, retired ones).
Unfortunately I didn't take an appropriate photo that demonstrated just how lovely the bride was (is) so I thought  I'd show you Jodi in full call.
No set of wedding photos would be complete without a photo of discarded shoes

  1. What lovely pictures of a very happy occasion, they really capture the joyful and high spirited atmosphere.

...And I can't help thinking what very beautiful shoes they are too!.

    1. It was a very happy and informal occasion and it would seem that at the ceilidh half the inhabitants of the area were there. I cannot even begin to imagine what it must be like for anyone to wear theses shoes but the wearer certainly looked good in them.

  2. My goodness, I thought the first photo was of the bride ~ FWKTM is too young to have grown daughters getting married. Looks like a very very happy event.

  3. So stylish!!! That looks one posh wedding. The shoes have a great colour, but seeing the height of those heels I am not surprised they were discarded.

    1. It was a very beautiful wedding Meike - the bridal car may not have been regarded by some as 'posh' though!

Loved the bright yellow bridesmaids dresses and the colourful van transportation.....
Joanna is a girl after my heart....a fun-loving and happy spirit....wishing her and her husband the best for the future.

    1. Virginia everyone did have a great time and the bride is very grounded and you would also love that she is a natural with animals - particularly her horses but I overheard someone saying she was the best lamber he's ever seen (and he managed a flock of around 2000 ewes so presumably knew his lambers!).

  9. You aren't losing the famous Edwards touch with the camera, are you? (...always within reach...) No complaints about the photos posted - they are charming, and full of life! Just wondering how you managed to miss also getting the standard "appropriate" photo of the bride and groom ;) ... As for the shoes, I have to side with Meike!

    1. Monica unlike Gaz and Carol's wedding where there was lots of space where all the photos were taken the area at the church was very crowded and everyone was trying to take photos and it was actually quite difficult to get the bride and groom alone without lots of people in the way. After they photographer whisked them away for the 'couple' shots and then it was all the group shots. I did get quite a few but whilst many were quite 'candid' few were really what I would consider "appropriate'. I'll try harder next time! But then I know that I will always have the opportunity of seeing the professional ones.

    2. Just teasing you, Graham :) I really do think the photos you chose for this post are wonderful, precisely because they are not just the usual standard formal ones.

  10. This is another lovely wedding you attended, complete with pretty bride and her groom in kilts.

    1. Most of the people attending were from the heart of the Highlands Terra so there were plenty of kilts.

  11. What is it about kilts? I love them! Looks as though you had a wonderful day for it.

    1. I suppose, Frances, if your man was wearing a kilt at least he couldn't say that he wore the trousers in the household. They are very warm being made of 8 or 9 yards (hence the saying 'the whole 9 yards') of heavy tweed. I thoroughly enjoy wearing mine. And, yes, Ra and the many other sun gods all looked down and brought forth the sun when it mattered.

  12. Another lovely Scottish wedding. I cannot believe that FWKTM is old enough to be mother of the bride! What a fab looking woman she is. Your photos have a wonderful spontaneity.

    1. Pauline she looks fab because she is fab! Spontaneity is one of the advantages of not being an official photographer.
