A New Family

When Gareth and Carol married two families were joined.

It is only now that the festivities are over and I have returned from my all-to-brief sojourn in Glasgow that the reality of that joining has struck home.

When Gareth and Carol announced that they were marrying Carol’s family made it clear that if Gaz married Carol he married her family as well. I cannot think of a more loving and wonderful family with which to be associated as an in-law.

Gaz’s Mum and I have not lost a son nor just gained a daughter-in-law: we too have gained a family.

For me having lived on the Island for four decades it has the special significance of cementing my bond to the Island.

  6. Lovely thoughts with a lovely photo. The wedding dress for the bride! I have seen many over the years (not my my own!) and that has to be one of my very favorites. And I really do think you and your son look so handsome in kilts. My husband tells me that Gaz is a nickname for Gareth just like Baz is for Barry. I don't think I knew that!

    1. Thank you Kay. Gaz is, indeed, short for Gareth and, as my other name is Barry (the B of GB) I was called Baz or even Ba in my youth.

  11. Now that the two families are joined together let's hope that Carol's lot don't come around asking you for money! A lovely photograph of a day to treasure. The bride looks gorgeous.

  13. What a lovely pair they are. And there really is something nice about being accepted into another family - thank goodness both our girls married into nice ones. And it looks most certainly as if your boy has too.
