How To Open A Tin

The subject of opening tins seems to be on the agenda at the moment. Scriptor mentioned it in his posting curiously entitled I've Lost My Ankles a few days ago. Then yesterday when he wanted to open a tin, he was holding the above tin opener when he asked me what I used for opening my tins. This seemed, even by the strangeness of questions which CJ and I often address to each other, a very curious one. 'Well' he opined 'it can't be this. You have so many gadgets in this kitchen that I can't believe that you don't have some more sophisticated gadget for opening your tins.' Well I don't. I have had. People have presented me with various contraptions and I do have one for taking tops off tins which cannot be opened with a 'proper' tin opener. But the best tin opener that I have ever used is the above plain, simple, humble tin opener.

A Strawberry Pudding

I'm not a great pudding/sweet person. I do make them for my dinner guests but I tend to fall back on fairly safe sweets like fresh fruit or one or two staple favourites including a fairly mean cheesecake. You are far better off waiting for the cheese course for which, before I became more health conscious, I used to ensure guests would devour, savour and remember. Yesterday I decided to make a strawberry, cream, yoghurt and meringue concoction which required partial freezing and some delicate timing. All the ingredients were guaranteed non-fattening! Given the reception the concoction received I think this may find its way into my permanent repertoire.

The Rain It Raineth

When I left Glasgow on Friday the heavens opened and between the terminal building and the aeroplane I (and everyone else) was soaked through. Today when I arrived back in Glasgow it was raining although, thankfully, not quite so heavily. As I walked from the train to the flat late this afternoon the storm clouds loomed and I managed to beat the storm by about 5 minutes. It's my lucky day.

Frustration

I need to vent my frustration somewhere and this is the obvious place! I know that every one of you who read this will have experienced something similar at some time. Not, of course, that that makes me feel any better. I keep telling myself to play the Glad Game. In this case when one computer refuses to work I have two more to fall back on. But it doesn't seem to work like that. Get a problem in one and they all come out in sympathy! This morning Palin who yesterday came back from the Hospital where he's been all week because the bearings are wearing in the fan and he's waiting, noisily, for new ones. He, like me, has been allowed home for the weekend for good behaviour! Unfortunately he's being particularly grumpy and will not back up his data and Windows Explorer has decided to have a go slow - sorry a go so slow it's almost stop - morning.

I won't go on about them. Samantha seems to be the only one on good behaviour. But then she is the only she of the three. And I'm whispering just in case she hears. So, despite being up since 0612 I haven't managed a single email yet. Arghhhhhh.
