Tufted Ducks
Recently when I was at Grimshader (a small township about 15 miles from Eagleton) I saw some Tufted Ducks on a loch. They were a good distance away and my camera, though adequate, is not perfect for these pictures but here they are:
Not unlike the Goldeneyes that I sometimes see in the river here... But comparing pictures I see that besides the hairstyle, their beaks are also different colour. :)
In all honesty Frances the eyes look fine and wide open to me. I have just measured the distance on Google Earth and they were just over 100 metres away from me.
There are similarities Red although the tufted Duck doesn't have the iridescent green and purple of the Canadian Goldeneye and it is the only duck with a tuft (in the UK anyway).

Looks good to me but then I'm not very good with ducks.
ReplyDeleteThank you Adrian.
DeleteI had to laugh. They look like they are just waking from a morning nap!
ReplyDeleteWell, Peace, it was after noon but perhaps they looked like that because they had been diving for food.

ReplyDeleteYes Monica the tuft gives them away because they are the only duck like that.
DeleteThose ducks' eyes look really weird. Are they closed? Otherwise, excellent photos, especaily if you took them from some distance away.

DeleteOkay, tufted ducks . They look like our golden eye without the tufts.

DeleteGoldeneye have a white chest and a white splodge on green heads, The male does anyway.
DeleteEven your "not perfect" animal pictures are way better than any I could ever come up with!
ReplyDeleteMeike I did buy my camera with bird shots as a requirement but over 100 metres away was stretching its capabilities.
