It's not yet 8am.
Just before 5am I rose and made myself a cup of hot water and lemon (the first of several consumed since then).
CJ and Partner Who Loves Tea left at 5.30am for the morning ferry to Ullapool and the start of their three day journey home.
I followed them to the ferry terminal 20 minutes later to deliver PWLT's spare spectacles which I'd found in their bedroom.
Now I am breakfasted with the second lot of washing in the washing machine and the first lot of bedding already out of the tumble drier and awaiting ironing. The dishwasher has finished its allotted task.
It's been wonderful having my brother up for so long and to spend time, short though it was, with PWLT.
Life will now return to what passes for normality.
I have to be back in town for 9am to get my three-monthly jab to help keep the Big C in check.
And that will just be the first 4 hours of the day. There'll hopefully be another 14 or 15 after that.
And to cap it all, particularly for those who think I'm not a Christmas Person, here is a thought:
If I was close by I'd give you a thump re the Christmas reminder, Graham!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's 11.21 pm Wednesday evening as I type. I did some laundry today, too...it must be in the air!
Oh dear Lee. I'm glad you are not too close then because I imagine you could deliver quite a thump (real or metaphorical if you were of a mind) . I've been noticing your posts on Feedly. I'll be over soon to catch up. Life is hectic.
DeleteI'd say that you're a very busy senior.
ReplyDeleteI'm fortunate enough to be a very busy senior Red. It's head above water time at the moment.
DeleteLaundry for me too ... it is 8:20 Mountain time in the US. I agree with Lee, you need a thump re the Christmas reminder! PS, always interested to see your book shelves.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jill. I'm sure that, unlike Lee, you wouldn't really dream of thumping me - a fellow Volvo driver! I've another bookshelves post in the pipeline.
DeletePrayers you jab does well
ReplyDelete130 days to be glad the holiday is that far away. :)
Thanks Maywyn. At least when Nurse Chrisma give me the jab I don't have a sore bum for a couple of days. It helps keep me live though so I'm always very glad of the jab whether it's sore or not. I absolutely love your 'Glad Game' approach to my 130 days reminder.
DeleteLovely when they come, lovely when they go...... that's how I feel about visitors !!
ReplyDeleteHope the cancer checkup goes well.
ps. How is your knee? I have a friend who has had the same thing and 3 months later she is still struggling.
In a way, Helsie, I agree but it's strange. When one lives on one's own but really enjoys cooking and so on it's great having people for whom to cook and enjoy life with. On the other hand when one lives on one's own one becomes very used to being free to do things one's own way. So I suppose in a funny sort of way I have to agree with the way you feel if the visitors have been with me for a while.
DeleteMy knee was great from day one thank you. I came out of hospital 48 hours after the operation (earlier than the norm) and 4 days later went back without a walking stick to visit the ward (and got a severe row). It took about 6 or 7 months to be completely back to normal (the surgeon had said a year would be usual). However a close friend in the next village who had the operation by the same team a year after me took a much longer time although she's making great progress now. The main thing is to accept that there will be pain and work through that pain with the exercises and it should improve more quickly. I know a lot of people with new knees here and in New Zealand and very very few have not been grateful in the long run. Most of the ones who have take the longest to recover balked at the exercises and that is a big mistake.
Thanks for the day count to Christmas. I'm late in starting my preparations this year. Been waiting for inspiration and it hasn't arrived yet. You will miss John now he's gone south again, won't you? By the way, love your little bear.
ReplyDeletePauline your Christmas enthusiasm seems to have rubbed off on me after 70+ years because last year I not only bought the number of days snowman but also got a lot more Christmas decorations. I'm mellowing in my old age. Yes Little Bear was bought by my Little Brother some while ago.
DeleteI have a small Turkey in the freezer and we were just discussing yesterday what we should do with it. I suggested sawing it in half; roasting one half now, and the other for bonfire night. 130 days you say?
ReplyDeleteHeavens Cro. It's just a turkey. Live a little and throw a turkey dinner party or a slow roast turkey on the BBQ with lots of proper thickly cloved bread sauce, chestnut stuffing and all the gubbins.
DeleteI am glad you, John and PWLT got to spend time together. Your day sounds very busy; some people do not fit as much in a week as what you do in a few hours!
ReplyDeleteYou know I love Christmas and the weeks leading up to it, so I am one of those who count, too. When it was the 24th of July, I thought "It will be Christmas Eve in exactly 5 months", and I am sure I will be thinking about Christmas on August 24th, too.
Yes Meike, I know you love Christmas. I have a feeling that I'm mellowing too. I'm actually looking to acquire a proper Bavarian Christmas centrepiece. We used to have one as a family that I bought in Bavaria but I don't have it now.
DeleteFriends and I were having coffee at our local Ramada last Friday, when one of the receptionists started putting up a Christmas tree. Apparently it was necessary to do this in order to remind people to book for their Christmas lunches/dinners etc. I did threaten to sabotage it, but to no avail! ;)
ReplyDeleteJenny that would have freaked me out. I have always been twitchy when the shops start putting the Christmas displays up as soon as September is over.
DeleteWait, you iron your bedding? I bet you iron your underwear too. (Full disclosure: In the dim, distant past I did iron pillowcases and handkerchiefs.)
ReplyDeleteDon't be silly Bob. Of course I don't iron my underwear or my socks. However if my world were perfect I would sleep in newly-laundered and ironed sheets every day. With someone else doing the work so that I could concentrate on more interesting things. When I was 16 my boss's secretary told me that I was a good old maid wasted. I don't think things have changed (apart from the fact that I really am old now).
DeleteI previously thought that PWLT was a medical condition. I hope it's not contagious.
ReplyDeleteI was enjoying your post until the last bit. How could you, Graham? I think once every five years is enough for Christmas. They seem to come too quickly nowadays, and we'll soon be having the big family discussion/argument about who's "doing" Christmas this year....
