Lenticular Clouds

Lenticular clouds are a common sight in New Zealand and I've blogged about them before on my NZ blog. However I've never seen them before in Glasgow. Yesterday in the early evening they started to form and I suddenly became very aware of the 'small sky' syndrome that I suffer from when in cities. Being used to the big skies of Lewis it's hard to realise that one's view of the sky is so restricted. Nevertheless I did manage to get a couple of photos taken a good while apart of lenticular clouds over Glasgow.

    1. Thanks Red. They are not the best example of lenticular clouds but it's a fairly unusual thing to see in the UK.

    1. Cro that's why I love living where I do with such big skies. Here in the city where I am at the moment the skies are so small.

  3. Ahh, these are the UFO clouds, aren't they? Although I think this one looks more like a fish with angel wings (as opposed to an angel fish because I have no idea what they look like). Yours is beautiful at both times of day.

  6. Beautiful. We have quite clear skies here, and my London based son is entranced at the stars we can see (little light pollution, although it's a town).

    1. Light pollution is such a problem these days Frances. I'm glad that yours is such that you still have a good sky view.

  7. I great site over Weegie. It is one thing I miss here being in a glen. The big diesels that need fixing are some recompense. I may be getting a posh Fireblade engine for rebuild. I would love to get my hands on one of them. Like a 200hp watch but much cheaper.

    1. Adrian that's one of the problems in Glasgow that I don't have up here on the Island. It's 30 years since I rebuilt an engine.

  8. The formation in the first photo is reminiscent of a bird.

Glorious...a feeling of calm, of peace transcends all.

    1. Skies like that, Lee, certainly have a very calming effect on me even though we know that the winds up there are quite strong.

  10. Big fish or whale with wings was my first thought too (cf Pauline above) :) And you'll probably appreciate your own wide skies even more after having spent some time away from them!

    1. Monica since I returned to Lewis I haven't been able to see anything except rain! The whole of the west of Scotland seems to be wet.
