The First Leg

After a day of waiting around at Stornoway Airport and after nearly 9 hours returning home for a night's sleep Pat took me to the airport in the late morning for the extra flight FlyBe had put on at 1235. With a Sunday service following and Storm Henry waiting to pounce, one of the best sights all of us in the departure lounge had seen for a long time was the Saab 340 as it arrived outside the departure lounge window.

By 1500 hrs 90 minutes later than intended we were on the ground in Glasgow after a remarkably good flight. The first flight on my way to New Zealand was complete.

Today has been a quiet day out to lunch - another post follows on that.

  1. I must say it was a very interesting couple of days! Glad you got off the island. The next storm "Henry" will be the eighth this winter. Who thought of that one?! Schools closed and public transport stopped tomorrow. Here we go again! Happy holiday Graham x

  2. Looking forward to the lunch post already. I hope that your table manners were exemplary. No elbows on the table and no gravy on your front. It is a relief to discover you have made it to Glasgow. Only 11,297 miles to go.

  3. This could end up being akin to Around the World in 80 Days if you keep travelling at this speed! Never mind, the Kiwis will wait patiently for your arrival...they're a welcoming mob! :)

    1. You're absoluteley right Lee both Aussies and Kiwis might take the Micheal out of Poms but many started out that way so it's a tollerated relationship.

  4. Good to know this first leg turned out better than expected, after what happened the day before. Henry VIII is hopefully not going to be as vicious as his human namesake was!

    1. Henry VIII - love it Meike. He seems to be pretty wild but the planes are leaving Glasgow at the moment but then the storm hasn't reached its peak yet.

  6. I hope you enjoy the rest of the trip, and that all goes smoothly and on time. I'm still envious of you not going cattle class.

    1. Jenny it's the first time for a while that I'm actually not just putting up with the journey as a means to an end.

  10. I'm hoping that the rest of your trip will be fairer weather wise.
Soon you'll be back in NZ where your heart aches to be.
Where on earth did the four sleeps go to so quickly? Seems as if I read about them and then you were off.
    Safe travels.

    1. Well Virginia I suspect that it'll be a pretty bumpy start assuming that the storm force winds of Storm Henry don't delay the take-off but, as you say, it'll all be good when the heart reaches New Zealand.
