Villa Belforte

The Holiday in Italy is fast falling into my mental history archives.  There are still more posts to come but I haven't yet shown you the beautiful villa in which we stayed.  The village of Belforte belongs to the municipality of Radicondoli, in the province of Siena and the region of Toscana.  It has a population of about 226 and, so far as I can gather, the church has a Mass every day.

The Villa Belforte has recently been completely renovated.    The villa is on three floors: the ground level at the back and front being completely different (the villa is built on a hillside).  The front entrance is on the middle floor and the large patio area on the lower floor.   The website shows as much as I can but here are a few of my photos:

The entrance hall with the library/television room doors
The magnificent (and totally impregnable) front door
The stairs to the bedrooms on the top floor - presumably handrails would have been aesthetically displeasing
The lounge area on the lower floor
Kitchen and dining area on the lower floor
The patio and garden area
The seating area built out of the hillside with it's macnificent views
'My' bedroom (with ensuite of course)
The view from my bathroom window (which may eventually merit its own post).

  1. Graham, you have me positively drooling over those pictures!! This is a place in my taste - not cluttered up, yet cosy; modern without looking sterile; combining old and new in a most tasteful manner. Wonderful!
I suspect it didn't come cheap, but I suppose if the price is divided within a group, it becomes affordable.

    1. It was exactly as you say, Meike, and it was not cheap nor was it divided up! A friend, Mo, of over 50 years (scary thought) who lives in Canada had her 70th birthday this year and to celebrate she rented the villa and invited her family and I for a holiday. Her daughters live in Canada and Australia. Her sister-in-law lives in England near to my brother where we all spent our formative years. Both husbands are long dead. My contribution was to drive Mo and sis-in-law down through England, France and Switzerland to the Villa and back.

  3. Looks comfortable enough for a couple of weeks holiday ... ;) Those stairs without handrails would not be a favourite of mine, though. (Just to find something to complain about!)

    1. Monica I could cope with no handrails on those stairs - my bedroom was on the same floor as the entrance hall!

    1. We had a great time, Jaz, but the girls kept wanting to go and explore the delights of Tuscany. I could have stayed in the villa quite happily and just made the odd excursion out to the local cafe in the next town 7 k away. In reality though it was a fabulous base for exploring Tuscany (and getting lots of blog photos).

  5. The perfect holiday location surely. I looked at the website - you have downplayed the magnificence, it's the stuff of dreams.

    1. Yes Pauline it was the stuff of dreams. I'm still dreaming.... But I'll soon be back in the Land of the Long White Cloud.

  6. Honestly, another fine place that I'd love to be a part of! This is gorgeous....that bathroom window is unique, the view...even more so. It looks as though there is a ladder...maybe some sort of fruit tree's? and a person? Hmmm.

The front door is odd, to say the least...the stairs are different but I still like them, other than the railing {it doesn't quite fit the 'look'}. I do like the open'ness of it all! And....of course, it shares such an interest for me being that I've never stepped foot out of our country.

    1. You would absolutely love this place and Italy, Heather. There is so much to see and so much to photograph: places and people.

  7. I'm pretty sure I would have spent the majority of my time on that lower floor!
And that last photo of the bathroom window! Ah, yes, I may have spent a little more time there than necessary! :)
