Christmas Reindeer

I know that I'm in New Zealand but one of the advantages of Blogland is that it is virtual and non-geographic in its reach.  So if I didn't tell you then you would have no idea where I am.  Sorry about the  mixing up of tenses.  Anyway I read Librarian's post Salzburg Sunrise this morning.  The last photo is of a reindeer in a very proud or haughty pose.  It's full of life.  When I saw that it made me realise what a dull and pedestrian structure is the one in Argyle Street in Glasgow which I photographed the day before I left for New Zealand.  With a little bit of thought it could have been so much better.

  1. I must admit I didn't like either of them very much - Bah, Humbug!

But give me a real reindeer and I'm more than happy...

  2. GB, you are right, the Salzburg stag holds a much better pose, while the Glasgow one just... well, it just stands there. Thank you for linking to my post!

Scriptor, I am generally not one for many ornaments, either. There was just something about this huge stag that made it impossible for me to look the other way.

  3. I'm with Scriptor Senex on wanting the real thing.

    Lovely photograph though,

  4. Definitely agree. But a loteasier to make I suppose. There would be no excuse if it was a permanent sculpture (it's not, is it?)

  6. "dull and pedestrian"... I don't think I've come across that use of the word pedestrian before, it puzzled me for a while (because of pedestrians also being in the picture). Then I checked for more translations of the word. Ah. Hm. Actually I think I still find that reindeer pedestrian mostly in the sense that people are able to walk right under it! ;)

  7. I think of pedestrian as being just ordinary.
A check with Google reveals this definition of the word as an adjective: Lacking inspiration or excitement; dull.
    This reindeer fills that description.
