The Light Went Out

I have just come across a copy of part of a letter that I wrote to a dear friend (who is still a dear friend) back in 1978.

“How often do you go to the loo?  Twice a day at least?  That means for the last thirty years you have made about 22,000 visits.  And how many times have you checked the loo before you sat down? [at that time my friend was living in Canada – as I now know, had it been Australia, the answer would have been different].  Well, for the record, I rarely do.  Perhaps I ought.  ‘Cos yesterday there was a bloody great bumble bee sitting underneath the seat.  And he took great exception to the light going out on his world.”

  2. Ohh, you are so right about checking the seat in Oz. When I was living in North Queensland, a big fat frog liked to live under my toilet seat. Something I continually forgot and was constantly leaping to my feet when a cool, moist something nudged me to turn on the light. Still, that wasn't as bad as the time I actually checked under the seat first, sat and a brown snake made it's escape by slithering around the bowl, under my feet. Who said a trip to the loo can't be exciting??

  3. Oh dear. I have occasionally through the years read horror stories about snakes making their appearance through plumbing; but never a bumblebee. I hope the memory doesn't still hurt!

I couldn't help laughing either, not so much because of the bumblebee, but because I was reminded of one of the first posts by you that I read on this blog. Had that been the only one I doubt I would have ended up following you around...

Now I'm gonna be cruel and leave you guessing for a while which post that was!

  4. Oh Monica. That is cruel. I wonder what it was. I'm just going out but this evenning I'll see if I can guess.

  5. Hahaha. To be honest, I've always checked before sitting. I watched a television show once where a boa (snake) was lost in an apartment building...and came up, alive, through someones toilet. ACK!!

  6. Monica. I think the posting you are referring to must be the pink loo in Pink For Men . Correct?

  7. Nope. By then (the pink loo post) I was already hardened and also knew that there were more sides to you... I've been following you for a bit longer than that. (You have to go back a few months more.)
